Our CloudPlatform Journey by Sergey Levitskiy, Autodesk

Autodesk makes software for people who make things. Manufacturing, architecture, building, construction, media and entertainment companies all rely on Autodesk software for the power to make virtually anything – the next blockbuster video game, a 21st-century hot rod with generative design and VR, vertical farm solutions for urban farmers, robotic fabrication in architecture and much more.

Today, our software taps the infinite computing power of the cloud to help teams around the world collaborate, design, simulate and fabricate their ideas in 3D. However, our original need was for an internal private cloud.

When our IT team first researched (during cloud.com days) available private cloud solutions (e.g., VMware, Cloud Director, OpenStack, Equalytics), we discovered the products were not user friendly and couldn’t meet our needs. Our decision to select CloudPlatform was a no-brainer!

As the IaaS market matured more and more public and private cloud options appeared, including OpenStack, we continued to grow as well. And, we did look at some of the newer cloud solutions. Moving to alternative technology doesn’t make sense for us since CloudPlatform has proven to be a reliable platform that continues to evolve to meet our core needs. Our choice of the CloudPlatform is based on reliability, scalability and easy to use with the simplicity of a packaged application.

From what began as few isolated use cases for automation has now extended to a mature private cloud infrastructure running thousands of virtual machines and supporting hundreds of simultaneous users. CloudPlatform enables disparate and diverse teams to collaborate more effectively across the enterprise. This in turn helps us deliver Autodesk software products to more than 100 million people.

From grand visions to practical products, our Autodesk private cloud powered by CloudPlatform allows our employees to explore boundary-pushing ideas to take Autodesk projects into the future. Accelerite CloudPlatform has proven to be the best — the easiest to use, upheld 24/7 reliability and straightforward to administer. We couldn’t be more pleased.
